WHAT DO YOU WANT OUT OF YOUR DAY

To be taken on a specific route? To learn something new? To improve? Or just to have a great day out?

Tower Ridge

A personal favourite the queen of British Mountain days out. 600m of mountaineering ending almost at the summit of Ben Nevis. I've lost count of how often I've done this route in summer, winter rain and sunshine and I never tire of the variety, the situations and the exhilaration as you reach Tower Gap, the sting in the tail guarding access to the summit.

Want an easier route on Ben Nevis? Ledge Route.

Want something harder? North East Buttress.

Want something less travelled? The Great Ridge of Garbh Bheinn.

Want to learn to do it for yourself? Ask for an Introduction to Mountaineering Ropework.

"Thanks Alan! great pictures and fantastic day -  it was a massive confidence boost for me.  Having the back up of a rope, allowing me to relax try footholds and handholds which I would have been nervous about without the rope.  I will be much more confident off the rope now and the great to be in exposed sections and enjoy it without feeling sick!" Naomi 2016

Intro to Rock/Learn to Lead

This is what I love most. Giving others the skills to go climbing for themselves. The equipment, the knots and the skills can seem complicated but we can help you simplify and understand things to become a good second or to get 'on the sharp end' and lead climbs for yourself. Polldubh near Fort William is one of the best places to learn to rock climb in the UK with a wide variety of routes and Grades.

Want somewhere different? Visit the NW Highlands for a few days with me and lets climb at Reiff.

Want to climb on the roughest rock in the UK? Lets hit the gabbro of Ardnamurchan.

Want a climbing MOT or to learn how to respond to problems? Ask for a rope work and problem solving course.

I" had a fantastic four days and learned so much." Peter 2016

"Another great session with Alan Halewood on Monday. Been learning trad essentials, and achieved my first lead climbs under his instruction. Anyone looking for client oriented, goal based instruction, he's your man. Couldn't give enough praise to how well our sessions have went." Matt 2020

Curved Ridge

This is the classic Scramble on Buachaille Etive Mor one of Scotland's most iconic peaks. Sheltered from westerlies its possible in a wide range of weather conditions and as well as a top day out is a great venue for learning mountaineering ropwork.

Easier but longer? Aonach Eagach.

What next? Tower Ridge.

Want to get off the beaten track? Lagangarbh Buttress and down Broad Buttress or B to F Route.

"Just a quick note to say how much Johnston and I enjoyed Sunday’s scramble up Curved Ridge on Buachaille Etive Mor. It was terrific fun, and as expected Al was an exceptional guide up the route; great company, and a peerless level of knowledge on all mountain matters. He also managed to arrange some brilliantly clear conditions for us!" Will 2016

Agag's Groove

If you haven't heard of 'Classic Rock' then you should look it up. The book makes a list of aspirational but achievable rock climbs of great quality in the UK. In there is Agag's Groove which takes an exposed, improbable but never hard line up Rannoch Wall on Buachaille Etive Mor. The views over Curved Ridge out onto Rannoch Moor are of a breadth you can only find in Britain in Scotland. The rock is superb and seems cut to size for hand and footholds. just watch the Raven doesn't steal your lunch at the bottom!

Want harder? Ardverikie Wall.

Want to try a VS? Spartan Slab.

Want more remote? Cioch Nose.

Want to learn? Come on an Intro./Learn to lead course.

"First I must thank you for being a great leader and letting me tick one of my "to Do" boxes. I am still getting a buzz out of the achievement and we were so lucky with the weather because it has been very poor here." William 2016
