The Association of Mountaineering Instructors is the representative body for professional instructors who have undergone rigorous training and assessment to qualify under Mountain Leader Training UK (MLTUK) guidelines
The Union of International Mountain Leaders is the International body representing holders of the IML. This qualification lets the holder lead groups in different mountains all over the world, where the skills of alpinism are not required. IMLs can work with groups on high altitude treks as well as leading groups on snow shoes. IML’s, from every member country, have to maintain International Continuing Professional Development (ICPD) to ensure that members are kept up-to-date with the latest developments in mountain leadership.
The British Association of International Mountain Leaders is the Professional Organisation representing and overseeing British holders of the IML award
The Mountain Leader Training Association is the body for holders of all levels of awards under the MLTUK scheme

Testimonials 2009

'Thanks again for a fabulous couple of days. We both feel that it exceeded our
expectations..... ....Once again, thanks for all that you have put into the last few
days - we've both gained a huge amount from it and will recommend you at every
opportunity. We wanted to let you know what a brilliant time we had the other
week.
It was great to learn some of the techniques on safe ground on the wall before
heading out on the hills. You gave us a fantastic couple of days. We learned so
much and you tailored the days really well given that we have such different
levels of experience and fitness - it's the first time Allister and I have been out
together and BOTH got loads out of it. Even on the walk-ins you were full of
information. Having been scared of heights and still thinking I was nervous on
snow, I had a fantastic time and didn't feel worried about it once. I learnt how to
deal with different conditions and, most importantly, the importance of getting on
with things in the cold!

Alison Intro. To Winter Climbing Jan 09

Thanks for a great day on Saturday on Ben Nevis. I learnt so much. It
was so good to have a tailor made course with a walking encyclopaedia
of the mountains. Your patience and effective teaching methods meant
that I got so much out of the experience. A day I will remember.

Thanks for a great day out on Sunday. You gave us a lot of confidence and we
learnt loads, look forward to more of the same next year.

Rich Intro. To Winter Climbing Feb 09

Just a quick one to say thanks for the course, we all really enjoyed it (I think I
enjoyed the rain more than most, it brought back good memories of Dartmoor!!)
We all thought it was really well structured and all acheived everything and more
that we wanted.

Matt Winter Mountaineering Mar 09

Just like to say thank you very much for a fantastic week up on the Cairngorms. It
really was a shame to leave on Saturday. Thanks for your patience throughout the
week, I got alot more out of the course than I first expected, even surprising Will
with things that I learnt. I would also like to think that the week has helped, if only
slightly, to improve my confidence on slopes and hopefully will get me back into
the more adventurous activities that will and I used to do on the hill.

I had a great weekend and learned a lot.

Thank you very much for organising such a splendid day's guiding along the
Aonach Eagach. It was absolutely fantastic. I also really appreciated your
comments on how to improve my style of scrambling and on subsequent days I
found that I was hardly using my knees at all.
I have often heard mountaineers quote the Chinese proverb, 'Better to live a one
day as a tiger than a thousand years as a sheep' to explain why they climb. To me
23 April 2009 was very much a tiger day and one that I will always remember.

It was amazing, thank you.
